Ink and introductions!

My name is Darnell.

The ability to call myself a writer was something long in the works, during a time when I was unaware of my love for storytelling.

It was through my mother and her own love of a good story, that nurtured the tale teller in me. My eagerness to be entranced by the recounted memories of her childhood helped to form the early foundations of the writer I’d become. She was a natural at the art and fine teacher into the craft.

Though I had an affinity for storytelling, reading proved to be much more of a challenge. I was a fantastic reader only when I had to be, reading classwork instructions and participating in read-out-louds.

My call to action, so to speak, came one day in the 3rd grade when I had become so visibly restless during silent reading, getting up to grab a book, sitting down, skimming through it, and putting it back. I did this about 2-3 times before I was told, “Darnell, the next book you grab, will be the one that you read.

The book just so happened to be Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. The words came to life from the pages and in that moment I decided I wanted to become as good as writer as J.K. Rowling herself.

In the years following, I spent plenty of time honing my craft, filling composition books with fictional stories of this and that, reading anything that caught my attention, practicing my skills at storytelling amongst my family and peers, and absorbing all I could to better myself.

Thanks for taking interest to learn about me and support my work!
